Realism reproduces a subject the way a photograph sees it, using graduated shading rather than outlines to create form. Because there is no bold black line holding the shape together, the whole image depends on getting the values right — which is why realism is usually built up in layers over more than one sitting.
Faces, animals, eyes, hands, clocks and anything with strong texture translate well. Very fine detail needs physical room to survive healing, so a realistic piece is generally planned larger than clients first expect. Much of this work is done in black and grey; see also portrait tattoos.
All realistic tattoo work is done at our studio at Church Basilica Junction, Old Goa. Talk your idea through with Ravi, Aakash or Rahul Khavadiya, or browse all our tattoo styles. Clients booking this style often also look at Portrait Tattoos and Custom Tattoos.
